NCRCG CEO to retire after over 30 years of public service

Following a commendable 30-year career in the public service, Detective Superintendent Ian Kirby, CEO at the National Cyber Resilience Centre Group (NCRCG), has announced that he will retire at the end of March 2025 and, as such, has stepped down from his role as CEO.

The Board is in the process of conducting a thorough and rigorous recruitment exercise to appoint a permanent, external, private sector successor who will be able to build on all that has been achieved to date and drive NCRCG and the wider CRC network’s ambitions forward.

Whilst recruitment is underway, the Board has appointed Alan Greig as interim CEO at NCRCG with immediate effect. Alan, who is also Chief Executive at BRIM, has been working with NCRCG since its inception, advising policing’s cyber crime team on the evolution of the CRC network and as one of the architects of both NCRCG and Cyber PATH. With over twenty years of experience in the cyber space, as both a security practitioner and a CEO, he brings with him a wealth of commercial experience and technical ability.

NCRCG Chair, Tijs Broeke, said:

“All of us at NCRCG would like to thank Ian for the fantastic work he has done as CEO, spearheading the growth of our National Ambassador programme and raising the profile of the CRC network as a trusted and reliable partner in the cyber landscape. I am confident that Alan in the interim period and whoever the Board appoints as permanent successor will immerse themselves in the role with similar enthusiasm. On behalf of the Board, we wish Ian the best of luck for the future as he takes his richly deserved retirement.”

Detective Superintendent Ian Kirby, said:

“I am very proud to have served as CEO and remain a strong advocate for the transformative work the team at NCRCG and the wider CRC network are doing.

“I have led an incredibly varied and fulfilling professional life, beginning my career as a Police Officer in the Royal Air Force in 1990, before becoming a Police Constable at Hertfordshire Constabulary in 2000 and embarking on numerous roles and challenges in the years since.

“I am grateful that I am able to draw my career to a close in an organisation like NCRCG, helping to progress essential work for the benefit of small and medium-sized businesses across the country. I look forward to following the network’s progress over the coming months and years.”

Interim NCRCG CEO, Alan Greig, said:

“I have had the privilege of working with NCRCG and the wider CRC network as it has grown and developed over the past few years and so I am delighted to be stepping into this interim role. Over the coming months, working closely with the NCRCG team, my focus will be to develop the structure of the network to scale up police support, strengthening the foundation upon which a permanent successor will be able to build.”
