The National Cyber Resilience Centre Group (NCRCG) is pleased to announce Detective Superintendent Ian Kirby has been appointed as its new CEO.
Ian has over thirty years of policing experience, having begun his career as a police officer in the Royal Air Force in 1990 before joining Hertfordshire Constabulary in 2000. Most recently, Ian was Head of Cybercrime, Technical Surveillance and Development at the Eastern Region Special Operations Unit, where he led specialist teams in the investigation and mitigation of serious and complex cybercrime cases across the seven East of England counties.
Ian joins NCRCG as it looks to further develop the Cyber Resilience Centre network and grow its talent pipeline programme, Cyber PATH. He replaces Detective Superintendent Nick Bell, who stepped down from the position in October. Nick remains as an NCRCG Director and is set to retire later this year after thirty years of policing service.
Speaking of his appointment, Detective Superintendent Ian Kirby said:
“Cyber resilience is an issue that has sat at the heart of my career and something I am absolutely committed to embedding across our towns, cities and regions. There is no shortcut to achieving a cyber resilient economy however, in NCRCG, we have a platform to draw together and capitalise on the insights of the best of academia, industry, policing and government, which certainly brings us much closer to this ambition.
“My sincerest thanks to Detective Superintendent Nick Bell, who has done an incredible job in launching and moulding NCRCG from the ground up. I am delighted to join NCRCG as its new CEO and am proud to be building on all that Nick and the team have achieved to date.”
James Thomson, Chair of NCRCG, said:
“Cyber attacks are a significant threat to our economy and security. NCRCG, alongside the National Crime Agency, National Cyber Security Centre, and Regional Cyber Resilience Centres, are critical players in protecting us against this national security threat.
“Efforts to scale up resilience are paramount to protecting businesses, charities, and organisations of any size, and with NCRCG entering the next phase of supporting our Regional Centres, we welcome Ian at the helm to help us meet this challenge.
“I also want to thank Detective Superintendent Nick Bell for his service and wish him all the very best for his retirement at the end of the year.”
