Meet Chris Chiocca: Cyber PATH Student.

Chris is currently an undergraduate student at Anglia Ruskin University pursuing a BSc in Cyber Security. Alongside their studies, Chris has joined the Cyber PATH programme, collaborating with the Eastern Cyber Resilience Centre to assist SMEs enhance their cyber resilience.

We spoke with Chris to hear more about his Cyber PATH experience thus far and how their studies have aided in the delivery of real-world services.

First of all, why did you want to join Cyber PATH?

Cyber PATH offers an incredible opportunity to help others reinforce their cyber security measures and knowledge, whilst allowing me to learn and develop a broad range of skills to kickstart my career upon graduation.

What experience did you have prior?

I had worked as a first-line IT technician for the NHS at the start of the COVID-19 pandemic and had just completed a year-long placement as a first- and second-line IT technician for a university.

What services have you been trained in?

I have been trained in Security Awareness Training, Internal Vulnerability Assessment and First Step Web Application services, though I’m eager to continue my training as opportunities arise.

What services have you delivered?

I’ve delivered a number of Security Awareness Training sessions to different organisations, as well as a large Internal Vulnerability Assessment.

What has the support from supervisors been like?

The support I’ve received, both during and outside of service delivery, has been incredible. They’re always happy to help, answering questions and providing support.

Have you surprised yourself?

Absolutely! I was amazed at just how much I was able to transfer from my studies into delivering services; even skills and knowledge I’d learnt on a whim were really useful.

And finally, what would you like to do in the future?

I’d like to work within the police in digital forensics, investigating cybercrimes and examining systems for digital evidence.
